Dernbach, Germany-based power generation company Schaaf Industrie AG's (SIAG) acquisition of the shipbuilding site of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) Blohm + Voss Nordseewerke in Emden, northwest Germany has officially taken effect on March 8, 2010 under the name of SIAG Nordseewerke GmbH.

The acquisition will further increase the facility's ability to produce towers, machinery frames and foundation structures for offshore wind power plants, a press release by ThyssenKrupp said.

TKMS Blohm + Voss Nordseewerke will retain their shipbuilding expertise in the naval surface vessel and submarine engineering sectors as well as in the repair and outfitting sector at the Emden location.

"The target to create safe jobs, to avoid operational redundancies and to safeguard future prospects in Emden has been reached," said Reinhard Kuhlmann, CEO of TKMS Blohm + Voss Nordseewerke at the completion of the selling process.
