The number of private steel mills increases in Iran

Iranian sources report that four new steel mills -Siadan, Mazandaran Rolling Mill, Pulad Rolling Mill, and Gilan Steel Company- will be added to the list of private sector steel mills in Iran in the current fiscal year. The combined production capacity of the subject mills will reach 2.175 million tons per annum. In Iran, currently there are twenty-one operational private sector steel mills, which have a total production capacity of 2.74 million tons. Among the subject twenty-one companies, eleven of them came on stream last year. There are also five on-going development plans to produce 6.2 million tons of steel annually. Iran's steel production is expected to reach 47.4 million tons by the end of the country's Fourth Development Plan, with the completion of the on-going projects and the upcoming projects.
