Steelmaker Ternium SA anticipates being able to produce 2.5 million tons a year of steel by 2015 at its Acu port mill in Brazil, and possibly later expanding production to 7.5 million tons per year of slabs in a later phase. For now, the project is only at the environmental licensing stage.

Other projects under study at Brazil's Acu port, which is expected to begin shipping operations in 2012, is a possible steelmaking facility by China's Wuhan Iron and Steel Company (Wisco). Once fully operational, the Acu port complex will be able to export 60 million tons of iron ore and 10.2 million tons of steel, as well as other commodities, per year.
