Global manufacturer of energy pipe and tube products Tenaris announced Wednesday that it is installing its first North American full-scale production line for its trademarked Dopeless technology at its McCarty premium threading facility in Houston. The US $11 million line is scheduled to be operating by July 2012.

With this new investment, Tenaris will have six Dopeless technology production lines in addition to its 10 accessory and repair units. According to Scott Truxillo, Premium Threading Coordinator, McCarty Manufacturing Plant, the new line will be able to apply Dopeless technology to 70,000 TenarisHydril premium connections per year. "This investment will complement and expand our range of premium products we offer to customers from our operations here in North America," Truxillo said.

Tomás Castiñeiras, Dopeless Technology Project Manager, said that McCarty was the most logical place to install North America's first Dopeless line. "To complement the premium product offer produced at McCarty for US operators, and given that a main target of Dopeless products is deepwater operations such as those in the Gulf of Mexico, it was only natural to think of installing a full-length line at this facility," Castiñeiras said. "This line will have the capacity to supply most of our Gulf of Mexico customers with Dopeless technology, particularly on the Wedge Series 500 products that operators have chosen for these challenging wells for years."
