Tata Steel appoints new chief technical officer for European operations

Uday Chaturvedi has been appointed as the new chief technical officer of Indian steel behemoth Tata Steel's European operations with effect from October 1, 2010, the company has announced.

Mr. Chaturvedi will join the company's executive committee and will report directly to the Tata Steel Europe MD and CEO.

The responsibilities of the new role will include Tata Steel Europe's proposed new manufacturing hubs, Tata said, adding that a replacement as head of strip products in the UK will be announced in due course.

Before becoming managing director of Corus Strip Products UK in 2008, Chaturvedi was vice-president coke, sinter and iron and TQM (total quality management) in Jamshedpur.
