Taiwan's basic metal output down 0.36 percent in January from December

Taiwan's industrial production index in January this year decreased by 10.1 percent compared to December and was down 1.5 percent year on year, according to the country's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). Meanwhile, Taiwan's seasonally adjusted industrial production index in January increased by 4.2 percent compared to the previous month and rose by 10.5 percent year on year.

In January this year, industrial output in the country's basic metal manufacturing sector decreased by 0.36 percent and output of metal product manufacturing fell by 18.19 percent, both compared to the previous month. In addition, on year-on-year basis, in January this year output of the basic metal manufacturing sector declined by 8.79 percent and the metal product manufacturing sector output was down by 23.68 percent.

Meanwhile, in January this year, production in Taiwan's machinery and equipment industry contracted by 30.23 percent, while output in the automotive industry fell by 20.15 percent, both year on year.
