The World Trade Organization (WHO) has announced that Taiwan has filed a request for consultations with Canada over provisional and definitive antidumping (AD) measures imposed by Canada on imports of carbon steel welded pipe originating in, among others, Taiwan.

Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs claimed that Canada violated the WTO rules by imposing an antidumping duty on Taiwanese carbon steel welded pipe imports despite the dumping margin of less than two percent (de minimis).

After the filing of the request, the parties have 60 days to find a satisfactory solution without proceeding further with litigation. After 60 days, if consultations have failed to resolve the dispute, the complainant may request creation of a panel.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, in December 2012 Canada announced antidumping duties would be collected from carbon steel welded pipe imports from India, South Korea, Oman, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
