According to the latest data released by the Swedish Steel Producers' Association (Jernkontoret), in December 2011 Swedish crude steel production amounted to 373,300 metric tons, decreasing by 4.5 percent year on year but up 8.1 percent as compared to November.

Meanwhile, in the whole year of 2011 Swedish crude steel production totaled 4,866,200 mt, with a slight increase of 0.4 percent compared to 2010.

Jernkontoret indicates that Swedish steel companies have focused production on more advanced steel qualities. In Sweden, at present around 60 percent of the total production comprises alloy steel which also includes stainless steels. In the rest of the EU, as well as in the USA and Japan, alloy steels only comprise 10-15 percent of steel production.
