Stricter standards for Chinese coking coal exporters

China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday, November 21, its qualification standards for 2006 for coking coal exporters. The 2006 standards raise the registered capital requirement for coking coal exporting enterprises to a minimum of RMB 50 million ($6.2 million), up from RMB 30 million ($3.7 million). Furthermore, the annual export volume in recent three years should be a minimum of 120’000 metric tons per year, up from 100’000 metric tons. Sources report that the Ministry of Commerce will entrust the China Chamber of Commerce of Metals Minerals & Chemicals importers & Exporters (CCCMC) and the China Coking Industry Association (CCIA) to review the qualifications of applicants. The stricter standards could cause a further decline in Chinese coking coal exports. For details of the Ministry's announcement click here. SteelOrbis Shanghai
