Steel Dynamics to expand Pittsboro SBQ mill

German plantmaker SMS Meer has announced that it has received an order from US-based steelmaker Steel Dynamics (SDI) for the expansion of its special bar quality (SBQ) mill at Pittsboro, Indiana.

With the expansion of the mill, SDI will be able to roll high-quality SBQ products in the small-diameter precision range. These high quality products are used in a variety of transportation, industrial, energy and automotive applications.

The expanded rolling mill with an annual output capacity of 500,000 mt is scheduled to be commissioned in late 2013.
