Steel can recycling up in 2003

The International Iron and Steel Institute's (IISI) Committee on Packaging (PACKCO) reported that nearly 5.2 million tons of steel cans were recovered and re-melted into new steel products in 2003. The figure indicates a weighted recycling rate for steel packaging of 62.7% for 2003, up 2% year-on-year and 5.2% from 2001. Steel can recycling is just one means of conserving the world's natural resources. It also has the benefit of reducing energy consumption.
