SSI to stop production temporarily for maintenance

Thai steel producer Sahaviriya Steel Industries (SSI) is reportedly planning to stop production for 45 days in December 2004 for maintenance and installation of new equipment. The new equipment, including a reheating furnace and a finishing line will be installed by German SMS Demag. After the completion of the project, hot rolling capacity of the mill will increase to 4 million tons from the current 2.4 million tons. Moreover, the thickness of its products will extend from 1.2-13 mm to 1.0-19 mm.
