SSAB’s fossil-free steel to be used for auto component production

Swedish specialty steel producer SSAB has announced that it will supply fossil-free steel to Denmark-based high-quality automotive components supplier Meneta Group, to be used in auto component production, with the shared view that cars should not only drive sustainably, but also be produced sustainably.

From 2026, Meneta expects initial Scope 3 carbon reductions of 5,500-6,000 mt, growing to approximately 60,000 mt in subsequent years when its production fully incorporates fossil-free steel from SSAB.

SSAB aims to deliver fossil-free steel to the market at a commercial scale during 2026, and to largely eliminate carbon emissions from their own operations in around 2030.
