South32 lowers coal production guidance for FY 2022-23

Australia-based premium-quality hard coking coal producer South32 has announced its production and sales results for the first nine months ended March 31 of the financial year 2022-23.

In the given period, the company’s metallurgical coal production at its Illawarra Metallurgical Coal asset amounted to 3.99 million mt, decreasing by 7.8 percent, while its metallurgical coal sales in the given period totaled 3.87 million mt, down by 8.5 percent, both year on year.

The company’s total coal production in the first nine months amounted to 4.76 million mt, down by 3.2 percent, while its total coal sales came to 4.66 million mt, down by 1.2 percent, both year on year.

The company’s production guidance for the financial year 2022-23 has been reduced by seven percent compared to the previous guidance to 6.5 million mt, while production guidance for the financial year 2023-24 is unchanged at 5.3 million mt.
