According to data released by the South African Revenue Service (SARS), in August this year the value of South Africa’s exports of base metals and articles thereof totaled ZAR 19.4 billion ($1 billion), up 14.4 percent from July. In the January-August period, South Africa’s export value of base metals and articles thereof rose by 10.0 percent year on year to ZAR 152.3 billion ($8 billion).
In August, the country’s imports of base metals and articles thereof amounted to ZAR 8.0 billion ($422.2 million), decreasing by 3.0 percent from the previous month, while in the first eight months of the year South African imports of base metals and articles thereof moved up by 2.7 percent year on year to ZAR 67.0 billion ($3.54 billion) compared to the same period of 2022.
