SMS Demag upgrades Essar Steel’s hot strip mill

According to recent news in the market, German company SMS Demag has contracted with Indian steel producer Essar Steel to modernize its 2'150 mm hot strip mill. The hot strip mill of Essar was installed by SMS Demag in 1992/93 and became operational in 1995. Moreover SMS Demag will install a new coil station and modernize certain mills of Essar Steel to increase productivity and quality. With the modernization, the hot strip mill, which currently produces 2.4 million tons per annum, will be a high quality mill with a production capacity of 3.4 million tons. The modernization is planned to be completed by April 2005.
