SMS Demag to supply steel plant for Maghreb steel

German plantmaker SMS Demag AG has received a major order from one of the largest companies in North Africa, Morocco-based Maghreb Steel, for the construction of an electric steel plant and a single-strand continuous slab caster.

The new plant and slab caster, which are expected to be commissioned at the beginning of 2011, will have an annual production capacity of 1.0 million metric tons of steel.

SMS Demag will supply an electric arc furnace with modern technology, a ladle furnace, a dust-collecting facility and a materials management system for alloying agents.

The new slab caster will produce slabs in widths of 900 mm to 2,150 mm and with a thickness of 200 mm.
