The current reference price for Brazilian slab exports stands at $590 per metric ton (mt), up from $575/mt seven days earlier, under FOB terms for basic commercial grades, market insiders told SteelOrbis.
Prices have now returned to levels last observed in May 2024, continuing an upward trend that began in October 2025 when prices were at $455/mt, insiders said.
Analysts note that the ongoing depreciation of the US dollar against the Brazilian Real (BRL) persists, alongside continued disruptions in maritime transportation caused by the conflict in the Middle East. Shipments, however, from Brazil to the United States, Europe, and Asia have proceeded without interruption despite these challenges.
Given these unchanged circumstances, expectations remain for small increases and intermittent periods of stability in the Brazilian slab export price over April.
Data from the first three weeks of March, provided by Secex, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Secretariat within the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, shows March slab export volumes could finish below February's total of 794,200 mt.
