German plantmaker SMS Demag has announced the receipt of an order from Indonesian state-owned steelmaker PTKS (PT Krakatau Steel) for the modernization of its hot strip mill in Cilegon, West Java.
The modernization will allow PTKS to raise the production capacity of its hot strip mill by around 20 percent, to improve the product quality and also to extend its product range.
The upgrading works will consist of revamping the edger, as well as commissioning a new automatic width control system (AWC), which is aimed at improving strip width tolerances and at minimizing crop losses.
Of the consortium partners taking part in the modernization work, German firm Siemens AG will supply new basic and process automation for the roughing mill, finishing mill and cooling section, whereas Italian company Tenova will modernize the two slab reheating furnaces and upgrade the roll shop.
