The reference price for Brazilian slabs exports stands at $600/mt, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades, stable over the last two weeks, after having declined, two weeks earlier, for the first time since October 2025. Current slabs pricing remains the highest in almost two years.
Industry sources have mentioned export deals recently closed at $610/mt, also FOB conditions, but it’s not clear if this price includes quality extras.
Slab prices remain driven by the domestic demand, chiefly from CSN and Usiminas, reflecting a relative local shortage due to reduced slab production at CSN due to stoppage for revamping of one of its blast furnaces.
Preliminary data from customs remain pointing to slabs exports from Brazil, in May, lower than the 687,400 mt exported in April.
