Siemens to upgrade tandem cold rolling mill for CSN

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has announced the receipt of an order from Brazilian steel producer Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) for the modernization of the company's five-stand tandem cold rolling mill no. 3 in Volta Redonda, Rio de Janeiro.
 
According to the contract, Siemens is to renew the drive and process equipment, to replace the entire automation system and to upgrade the rolling stands, the infeed and outfeed areas and the emulsion cooling systems.

As a result of this modernization, Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional will be able to improve its product quality and to increase output.

The mill is due to start production operations at the tandem cold rolling mill no. 3 in the second half of 2009.
