Siemens Metals Technologies, a division of Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services, has announced the receipt of an order from Indonesian steel producer Kratatau Steel to equip its hot strip mill in Cilegon with new electrical and automation equipment.

Within the scope of the order in question, Siemens will supply and install the basic and process automation for the reversing roughing stand, the six-stand finishing mill and the cooling section of the hot strip mill. The project will be carried out by Siemens in a consortium with German plantmaker SMS Demag AG.

As a result of this modernization, Krakatau Steel will be able to boost its product quality and also the range of its products.

The conversion work will be carried out at the mill in 2010 during a scheduled shutdown of the plant.
