Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that it has supplied a first batch of 400 mt of reinforcing bars - ArmAnorma (A600S) - for the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Mersin province in southern Turkey. Another 1,600 mt will be sent early this year.

Severstal stated that ArmAnorma is a new generation of alloyed rebar with a unique combination of strength and plasticity. The products shipped will be used for erecting the foundation of the reactor compartment of Unit 1 of the plant.

The agreement on the nuclear power plant was signed between the government of Russia and the government of Turkey in Ankara on May 12, 2010. The operating life of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant is 60 years. Official construction started on December 10, 2017.
