Sales surge for US automakers in November

The big three US automakers, General Motors Co., Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Group LLC, all reported substantial sales growth in November. General Motors reported sales of 180,402 vehicles last month, a 7 percent increase from November 2010 but down from 186,895 units sold in October.

Ford sold 166,865 units in November, climbing 20 percent from November 2010, and the largest year-over-year increase in nine months. Ford's November sales fell slightly from the 167,803 units sold in October. Chrysler reported that sales swelled 45 percent to 107,172 vehicles last month, the best year-on-year sales gain this year. Chrysler sold 114,512 units in October.
