SAIL to revamp Rourkela Steel

Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) announced plans to invest Rupees 45 billion (approx. $1 billion) over the next seven years to overhaul the operations of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). SAIL intends to increase RSP's annual hot metal production from the current 1.9 million tons to 3 million tons. Accordingly, crude steel production will increase to 2.9 million tons and finished steel production will increase to 2.8 million tons. Hot metal production will be increased through a retooling of the four blast furnaces.
