Russian steel producer Estar Holding (Estar) has announced that its subsidiary Volgograd Small Diameter Pipe Works (VZTMD) has commissioned a new mill for the production of thin-walled refrigerator pipes.

The new mill 4-10 will allow VZTMD to produce electric-welded cold-deformed pipes with diameters of 4.76, 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0 mm and wall thickness of 0.7 mm in bundles, and also to manufacture galvanized coated pipes. By using its designed capacity, the mill will be able to produce up to 400,000 mt of pipes monthly, and will allow VZTMD to double its output of thin-walled refrigerator pipes.

The order for the new mill, which was supplied by Italian company Marcegaglia S.p.A., amounted to a value of more than Ruble 230 million (approx $8.8 million).

The investment for VZTMD's reconstruction and re-equipment project for 2007-2009 totals over Ruble 400 million (approx $15.3 million) in value.
