According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, in 2009
Russia produced 59.2 million metric tons of crude steel - down 13.9 percent, 50.8 million metric tons of finished steel products - down 10.3 percent, 6.7 million metric tons of steel pipes - down 14.4 percent, all compared to 2008.
In addition, in 2009 the country registered a 9.2 percent decrease in coal mining output and a 8.1 percent reduction in iron ore mining output year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 298 million and 92 million. Meanwhile,
Russia's 2009 coke output went down by 14.5 percent year on year to 27.4 million metric tons.
On the other hand, in December 2009,
Russia's output of crude steel showed an increase of 55.1 percent year on year and rose by 1.6 percent month on month, its finished steel products output went up by 46.5 percent year on year and by 6.8 percent month on month, while its steel pipes
production increased by 72.8 percent year on year and by 24.2 percent month on month.
