RSP plans to revamp old facilities

According to recent news in the market, Steel Authority of India Ltd's (SAIL) Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) plans to revamp its old facilities in 2005 with an investment of Rupees 2.5 billion ($55.4 million). Through this investment, the production capacity of the plant will increase from current 1.6 million tons to 2.3 million tons, indicating an increase of 40%. RSP will revamp its blast furnace with an investment of Rupees 950 million ($21 million). The blast furnace will be closed approximately for three months during repair work. After maintenance work, hot metal production capacity of the furnace will increase to 2'500 ton per day from the current 1'600 ton per day. RSP also plans to rebuild its sinter plant No.1. Blast furnace No.1 will also be reconstructed with the purpose of increasing productivity by 50%.
