Rouge Steel closed its C blast furnace temporarily

Rouge Steel Co. which is the primary operating subsidiary of Rouge Industries, Inc. has closed down its C blast furnace due to significant structural damage of the auxiliary equipment including dust catcher and downcomer. Company's two employees were effected from the dust exposure but they were treated and returned to work. Company authorities stated that C blast furnace had to put on idle. Meanwhile, the company has initiated the repair of the furnace in order to return it to operation. Furthermore, Rouge Steel stated that the operation is still running at its B blast furnace and other downstream steelmaking and shipping operations. In addition, the company maintains a comprehensive insurance program in respond to damages and business interruption losses. The daily combined molten iron production capacity of the two furnaces of the company amounts to 7'500 tons and two thirds of which is produced by its C blast furnace. The US integrated steel producer Rouge Steel's facilities and its 2.600 employees primarily serve the automotive, converter and service center markets.
