Romanian steel industry to secure state support for energy

Florin Spataru, Romania’s minister of economy, has stated that the ministry will support two plans for state aid for energy-intensive industries, including the steel industry, amid the current difficult economic conditions. The aid in question will be provided by government sources and European funds.

The minister stated that he will discuss the matter with Virgil Popescu, minister of energy, and Nicolae Ciucă, Romanian prime minister, so that the country’s steel industry would not have to reduce capacity due to high energy prices again as in 2022.

The minister added that the Romanian steel industry needs sustainability and that it is still facing instability of contracts with energy suppliers, shortages of raw materials, and the interruption of the supply chain.
