Russia's Volgograd-based Red October Steel Works has announced that in May this year it plans to recommission furnace No. 5 at its EAF shop No. 2, in line with its planned increase of output for the current year. The furnace was stopped in 2008, mainly due to the reduced volume of orders, as well as due to the need for capital repairs.

The recommissioning of the repaired furnace No. 5 at EAF shop No. 2 will allow Red October to increase its output to 45,000 mt of liquid steel per month. For comparison, in January this year, Red October produced 22,500 mt of liquid steel, in February the output volume was 28,600 mt, while in March it produced 37,900 mt.

With the operation of furnaces No. 5 and No. 6 at EAF shop No. 2, as well as with the receipt of the expected volume of orders, Red October says it will be able to ensure profitable operations.
