Russia's Volgograd-based Red October Steel Works has commissioned a new powerful centerless turning machine, designed for peeling large diameter round steel bars.

The new equipment will allow Red October to turn alloyed grades of round bars with diameters from 130 mm to 400 mm.

In the month of September of the current year, 545 mt of steel were processed by the mill's new centerless turning machine, with 3,046 mt being processed from October 1 to 26.

During the first nine months of 2008, Red October's crude steel production amounted to 588,264 mt, up 9.5 percent year on year, while its finished steel production increased by three percent to 407,467 mt.
