Possible AD action against plate imports in Korea

Korean mill Dongkuk is seriously considering filing a trade case against plate imports from Japan, China, and the CIS countries. Mill claims that plate imports are low priced and damaging the industry. For instance, the plates imported from Japan, which consist tha majority of all plate imports, are claimed to have a price advantage of over $30/mt versus local production. The mill also states that the market share of imports have been doubled during the last three years and reached 20%. The statistics show about 1,1 million tons have been imported in 2001, and expectation is that the total import figure will be about 1,4 million tons this year. In 1999 total imports were slightly over 650,000 tons. Market sources expect Dongkuk to complete their investigation and take legal action pretty soon.
