Polish steelmaker Huta Częstochowa, a subsidiary of Poland-based coking coal exporter Węglokoks, has resumed production as of January 20, according to local media reports. The steelmaker had suspended operations almost 15 months ago as its previous owner Liberty Częstochowa was experiencing financial troubles.
The company aims to produce 10,000 mt of steel in January, as SteelOrbis previously reported. This figure is expected to increase to 20,000 mt in February and is planned to reach 45,000 mt in May this year. Normally, Huta Częstochowa has an annual production capacity of 700,000 mt of crude steel.
Meanwhile, Węglokoks, the current lessee of the company, is expected to be the strongest bidder in the auction for the sale of Huta Częstochowa.
