Pig iron production falls in CIS

Russia's pig iron production fell 7.1 percent year on year to 4.01 million metric tons in January. Pig iron production rose 2.4 percent at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK), 9 percent at West Siberian Iron & Steel Works, 14.8 percent at Chusovoi Metallurgical Plant and 25.9 percent at Kosaya Gora Metallurgical Plant. On the other hand, production fell 0.2 percent at Severstal, 12.2 percent at Novolipetsk Steel, 23.5 percent at Novokuznetsk Iron & Steel Works (NKMK), 14.7 percent at Nizhny Tagil Metallurgical Combine, 2.9 percent at Tulachermet and 7.9 percent at Urals Steel. Ukraine's pig iron production fell 3.9 percent year on year to 2.61 million metric tons in January. Pig iron production decreased 9.5 percent at Dniprovsky Steel Mill, 2.5 percent at Mittal Steel Kryviy Rih, 1.2 percent at Ilyich Steel Works of Mariupol, 1 percent at Azovstal and 2.7 percent at Zaporizhstal. Production rose 2.5 percent at Alchevsk plant and 5 percent at Yenakiviye plant.
