Output drops at Curragh coalmine in Australia

Wesfarmers' Curragh coalmine in central Queensland has posted reduced fourth quarter coal production citing ongoing infrastructure problems. Production in the quarter ended June 2007 fell by 3.8 percent to 2.13 million tons compared with the previous quarter. Metallurgical coal output at the mine has increased by 1.4 percent. The limitation of metallurgical coal output is attributed to ongoing infrastructure constraints and the upgrading work on the raw coal plant feed lines. In addition, coal output at Wesfarmers' Premier Coal open-cut mine near Collie in South of Perth declined by 20 percent to 2.990 million tons in the fourth quarter.

On the other hand, commissioning continued at the Research and Development Char Plant (which will have an annual capacity of 50,000 tons), while the Curragh North Materials Handling Project was also completed during the quarter.
