The Russian pipe producing company United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has announced the receipt of a large diameter (LD) pipe supply order for the construction of the OML 58 Obite-Ubeta-Rumuji (OML 58 O.U.R.) gas pipeline project in Nigeria. The operator of the project is one of the world's major oil and gas groups, Total, which is implementing it jointly with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Under the scope of the order, in the third quarter of 2009 OMK's Novgorod-based pipe-making subsidiary Vyksa Steel Works (Vyksa) is to produce 25,000 mt of pipes with diameter of 1,067 mm, wall thicknesses of 19.1 mm to 25.4 mm, strength class of X65, and with an external three-layer polyethylene anticorrosive coating.
The order marks the first time OMK will deliver large diameter pipes to the African market, and is the first order the company has received from Total.
The OML 58 O.U.R. gas pipeline project, which is to be constructed in southern Nigeria, will supplement the existing pipeline system which connects the natural gas fields with gas liquefaction plants for further delivery for export and also with ocean shore ports.
