Ohio’s steel output drops

Ohio, US steelmakers saw their production decline in the second quarter while shipments also slowed from a year earlier. The Ohio Steel Council said that the companies produced approximately 3.5 million tons of steel during the second quarter of 2005, down 5.4 percent from 3.7 million tons from a year earlier. Accordingly, the production amounted to 7.2 million tons in the first half of the year, down 1.4 percent from 7.3 million tons in the first half of 2004. Steel shipments fell 3.6 percent year on year to 3.7 million tons during the same period. For the first half, shipments totaled 7.7 million tons.
