OECD unemployment rate stable at 5.8 percent in August

In August this year, the unemployment rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries remained stable at 5.8 percent compared to July, unchanged since May, according to new figures published by the OECD. The number of unemployed in the OECD region in August was 36.1 million people, 3.5 million more than before the crisis in April 2008.

In August, the unemployment rate for the euro area was at 9.1 percent, stable month on month. In the given month, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage point in Canada to 6.2 percent, increased by 0.2 percentage points in South Korea to 3.8 percent, rose by 0.1 percentage point in Mexico to 3.3 percent, grew by 0.1 percentage point in US to 4.4 percent and remained stable in Japan at 2.8 percent, all compared to July.
