OECD employment rises to 66.8 percent in Q1

The employment rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries was up 0.3 percentage points quarter on quarter to 66.8 percent in the first quarter of this year.
 
In the first quarter this year, employment rose by 0.4 percentage points in the euro area to 65.1 percent compared to the previous quarter. The highest quarter-on-quarter increases were observed in Hungary with 0.8 percentage point growth to 65.6 percent, in the Czech Republic with a 0.7 percentage point increase to 71.4 percent, in the Slovak Republic with a 0.7 percentage point rise to 64.2 percent, in Poland with a 0.6 increment to 64.2 percent and in Turkey with a 0.6 percentage point increase to 51 percent, all quarter on quarter. 
 
In the given quarter, the employment rate increased by 0.4 percentage points both in the United States and Japan to 69.3 percent and 74 percent, respectively, both on quarter-on-quarter basis. In the first quarter this year, the employment rate rose by 0.1 percentage point both in Canada and in the United Kingdom to 72.5 percent and 73.3 percent respectively, while the employment rate in Mexico decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 60.9 percent, all quarter on quarter.
