OECD annual inflation rate rises to 0.9 percent in August

The annual inflation rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries increased to 0.9 percent in August this year, compared to 0.8 percent in the previous month, according to the latest figures. 
 
The inflation in food prices decreased to -0.2 percent in August from 0.1 percent in the previous month, while energy prices fell by 6.7 percent compared to July.
 
Compared with the same month of 2015, annual inflation increased to 1.1 percent in August in the US, following the year-on-year rate of 0.8 percent recorded in July. In August, in France, Germany, Italy and the UK annual inflation was stable at 0.2 percent, 0.4 percent, -0.1 percent and 0.6 percent, respectively, compared to July. In Canada, annual inflation decreased to 1.1 percent compared to 1.3 percent recorded in July, while annual inflation in Japan fell to -0.5 percent, down from -0.4 percent recorded in the previous month.
