OECD annual inflation rate at 0.4 percent in April

The annual inflation rate of the 34 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries slowed to 0.4 percent in April this year, compared to 0.6 percent in March, according to the latest figures.
 
The inflation rate of energy prices increased to 11.5 percent in April from 10.8 percent recorded in March, while the inflation in food prices decreased to 0.7 percent in April from 0.9 percent in the previous month. "Food and energy, the OECD annual inflation rate slowed to 1.6 percent in April 2015 compared with 1.7 percent in March," the OECD said.
 
Compared with the same month of the previous year, inflation decreased by 0.2 percent in April in the United States, following the year-on-year decrease of 0.1 percent recorded in March, while in Canada it rose 0.8 percent in April after the 1.2 percent rise in the previous month. In April, annual inflation in Italy decreased by 0.1 percent for the consecutive third month, in France the annual inflation was 0.1 percent, up from a decrease of 0.1 percent in March, in Germany annual inflation was 0.5 percent in April, increasing from the 0.3 percent year-on-year increase recorded in March, and annual inflation in the United Kingdom fell to minus 0.1 percent, compared to zero percent in the previous month. Annual inflation decreased to 0.6 percent in Japan in April, after the 2.3 percent year-on-year increase recorded in March.
