Nucor is planning a $300 million expansion Berkeley mill in South Carolina, as part of a multi-billion dollar company-wide capital spending plan over the next two years.

Approximately $40 million will be spent on property and building construction, with another $260 million spent on equipment, creating at least 50 full-time jobs within a five-year period. According to local news, Berkeley County Council’s Finance Committee awarded initial approval this week to tax breaks for the expansion.

Details of the expansion plans have not been disclosed. Nucor Berkeley produces flat rolled coils and steel beams, and in 2013 the company invested $135 million in the plant to produce thinner, wider, and higher-grade steel products.
