"A steel plant able to produce 300,000 mt of billet is to be set up in Mehran city," Ali Akbar Mehrabian, Iran's minister of industries and mines, has stated. An investment of about Rials 450 billion (approx. $43 million) is to be spent on the project to build Mehran Zagroz Steel, on which construction work has already started.

The new steel plant is expected to employ about 250 persons when it comes on stream within two to three years. Construction of Mehran Zagroz Steel, which is located in the western Iranian city of Mehran close to the Iraqi border, is being carried out by the private sector.
