After refusing to negotiate with a single union representing all its workers, the Brazilian steel and iron ore producer CSN has reached agreements with representatives of some of its workers, such as the Porto Real plant (galvanizing) and CSN Cimentos (cement production).
In meantime, the union representing all the metal workers in the state of Rio de Janeiro, where the CSN Volta Redonda steel plant is located, obtained a cautionary measure from the local labor court authorities, declaring that the agreements are having their validity suspended.
To confirm the validity of the agreements, the process will have to be approved by a federal labor court. According to the local press, a date was not established so far for the submission of the process to a federal labor court.
Two weeks ago, a slow operational pace during negotiations was proposed by the workers union as an alternative to exert pressure on the CSN officers in charge of the negotiations, but the suggestion did not move forward.
