Morocco’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and New Technologies has announced that it has extended its import quota on wire rod and rebar for a period of three more years. The ministry stated that it aims to protect local long products by extending the safeguard measures that would normally expire at the end of this year.

According to the decision of the ministry, the import quota for rebar stands at 96,631 mt per year until the end of 2019, and is expected to increase each year by ten percent. The import quota for wire rod, on the other stand, stands at 146.410 mt per year until the end of 2019 and will not be changed during the three-year period. In case of violation, an additional duty of $58/mt will be imposed on the violator.

The products subject to the safeguard measure currently fall under Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers 7213919000, 7214209000 and 7214999100.
