Moldavian Metallurgical Works (MMZ), a steelmaker based in the Transnistrian region of Moldova, has announced that it is resuming production on March 10.

The resumption of production will start with the production of wire rod. In March this year, the company plans to produce 37,000 mt of finished products. It usually ships rebar to Russia's southern and central regions, while most of its wire rod goes to central and eastern Europe. In 2015, the company plans to produce 500,000 mt of rolled steel.

During the recent downtime, MMZ has upgraded the furnace in its arc-furnace shop. The upgrade project aimed to increase the furnace's efficiency and reduce heat cycles.
