Mittal to restart Weirton blast furnace

Mittal Steel USA announced Monday that it will restart Weirton’s (West Virginia) Number 1 blast furnace later today, Tuesday June 7, 2005, or Wednesday. A general industry slowdown has forced furnace shutdowns throughout the North American steel industry. The Weirton furnace has been offline for 10 days and will take 2-3 days to resume full normal operation. Mittal states that unless business picks up the furnace will be shut down for another week in the last week of July.
