Mittal Steel’s Huta Czestochowa tender run ends

The Polish government rejected Mittal Steel's bid to run in the next stage of the tender being held for the sale of the Huta Czestochowa steel mill since the Dutch steelmaker failed to reach an agreement with employees of the Polish mill. Mittal seemingly had acquired the mill in a tender that ended last December. However, upon a complaint lodged by rival bidder Donbas of Ukraine, Mittal's take over was canceled and a new tender was launched. The present tender requires that perspective bidders negotiate with the employees of Huta Czestochowa. Mittal's recent failure to meet the demands of the employees reportedly prompted the Polish government to begin negotiations with Donbas.
