On August 11, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued notification that restructuring and reorganization of China's iron and steel industry should be completed in around three years.

According to the notification in question, each region's industry department is thus required to report to the MIIT by the end of 2010 regarding its local merger and restructuring program. Reports will include the basic information of the steel enterprises, plans for mergers and reorganization, a list of production capacities and enterprises earmarked for elimination, and a schedule for action in the region.
